Alchemy & Potions

Brewing potions in the five rooms, elemental coatings, and how potion slots work in combat. Run out of recovery potions and exploring soon stalls.

Alchemy is where you turn materials into potions. Run out of healing potions and your exploring soon stalls, so it pays to keep plenty on hand. It opens at Lv5.

Five rooms

RoomWhat it makes
Restoration ApothecaryHP, MP and combined restoration potions, plus Elemental Coatings
Tonic ApothecaryPotions that raise attack and defense, plus throwables
Elemental Offense ApothecaryPotions that boost attacks of a specific element
Elemental Ward ApothecaryPotions that reduce damage of a specific element
Essence Attunement ApothecaryChanges the element of Essence (Lv20)

The first four rooms are divided into six tiers, and each tier unlocks at a different level.

How to brew

Pick a room and a recipe, and you'll see the materials and Gold it needs. If you're short on materials, it shows what's missing.

You can brew several at once. The number of times you can brew is shown right on the button.

Potions drop before you unlock their tier. It may seem odd to get potions you can't make yet — the idea is that you try them first and brew them yourself later.

⚠ MP restoration potions only go up to the third tier. HP and combined potions go up to the sixth, but MP stops there — so if you're short on MP at high levels, look to combined potions instead.

Elemental Coatings

Consumables that change the element of your basic attack itself. You can make all eight elements in the second room of the Restoration Apothecary.

They're the fastest fix when your weapon's element doesn't match your opponent's weakness. For details, see Elements & Resistances.

Potion slots

Potions have to be placed in your three combat slots to be used in battle. You can't put the same potion in two slots.

In battle, tap a slot to drink it on the spot. During auto-progress, only HP restoration potions are drunk automatically; you have to drink buff and resistance potions yourself. How auto-healing works is covered in Combat Basics.

For buff potions, the duration is the cooldown — you can't drink another while the effect is still active.

Essence Attunement Apothecary

This is where you turn Essence of elements you don't use into the elements you need. It opens at Lv20, and each Essence tier has its own door that opens later.

Remember that it's a roll of the dice.

  • If you put in the standard amount (three Essence of other elements for one), the success rate is about one in three. It's lower for the Primordial Gem tier.
  • Putting in more raises the success rate, but it never reaches 100%.
  • A miss doesn't leave you empty-handed. You get Essence of a different element at the same tier.
  • Essence of the same element as your target counts double.

It's not just Essence you can put in. You can also burn any material or gear (gear counts at half value). However, Soul Remnants · Conqueror's Sigils · Enhancement Cores · Legendary materials can't be used.

Each tier also costs a fixed amount of Gold. You'll come out behind on value, but it's useful for breaking through a crafting bottleneck.
