Explore
The core activity: pick a city and region, set out, and walk your steps, meeting monsters and picking up materials. Covers the order regions unlock and how rewards work.
Explore is the core activity of this game. Pick a city, pick a region and set out, and you'll walk a set number of steps, meeting monsters and picking up materials along the way.
Reading the screen
The Explore menu has two levels. First you choose a city tile, then a region card within it.
Each city has 30 regions. The Avg Lv shown on a card is the average level of the monsters that appear in that region. It isn't an entry requirement — it's there so you can gauge what kind of opposition to expect.
With 30 regions, they're folded into three sections of 10. When you open a city, only the section containing where you should go next is expanded, and the screen scrolls to that card by itself. That card has a border around it.
The order regions open in
- A region opens once you've conquered the one before it. Level is not a requirement.
- Conquer all 30 regions in a city and the next city opens.
- Under the same condition, you can receive the 🏆 City clear reward.
The reward doesn't arrive on its own — press the claim button on the Explore screen to collect it yourself.
Setting out
Press a region card to open the departure window. You can choose as many steps as your character's level has unlocked, and the longer the walk, the more you get in one go.
Choose Auto-Explore and your character walks and fights on its own. In exchange you have to pay, and there are two ways to pay.
- Gold — costs something every step. The longer you set the walk, the more expensive the later steps become.
- Auto-Explore steps — deducted one-for-one by the number of steps, and not a single coin of Gold is spent.
With steps, the cost doesn't rise even on long walks, so the longer the expedition, the better this option is.
⚠ You pay the full cost up front when you set out. If you withdraw partway or fall, you don't get it back. If you're unsure about a region, you're better off trying it once with a short walk.
During Auto-Explore, skills aren't used and only potions are drunk for you — you're better off fighting tough enemies yourself.
You can only do one thing at a time. While exploring you can't start Gathering, the Spire or the World Boss, and vice versa.
What you'll meet
A region usually has around fifteen kinds of normal monsters and five kinds of elites. Some regions have a few more. Which you meet is down to chance.
- Monsters that drop good things appear less often.
- Elites appear at most once every five steps. They aren't weighed on the same scale as normal monsters but rolled separately, and that chance is the same in every region. They're tougher than normal monsters and give better things.
- Some steps bring something to gather or a short event instead of a fight.
- The monster you met on the previous step is left out of the next step. You won't meet the same one twice in a row.
Rewards
Explore is set up to give plenty of materials and ready-made potions. Ready-made gear isn't that common, so if you're after gear, you need to meet elites and region bosses.
Not every region has a region boss. Only half of a city's 30 regions have one boss settled in, and which region holds whom is shown on the region card in advance. Even in a region with a boss, it appears only on the final step, and rarely at that. If you're after the signature gear a boss leaves behind, walk every last step — withdraw partway and that chance never comes at all.
The lower the material grade, the more generously it drops. This makes sure you never run short of things for Alchemy and crafting, even if you move quickly through the early stretches.
Rarely, an Otherworld Chest drops too when you finish an expedition — up to one at a time.
