Boundless growth, relentless hunt

Gear Basics

What slots, grades and item level mean, where to get gear, and how to dispose of gear you don't use.

Gear is the most direct way to make your character stronger.

Slots

Head · Chest · Legs · Hands · Feet · Main Hand · Off Hand · Necklace · two Rings · two Relics — twelve slots in all.

Wielding a two-handed weapon locks your Off Hand. Whether a one-handed weapon plus a shield or off-hand item beats pouring everything into a single two-hander depends on the situation.

Equipping

Tap a piece of gear in your inventory and it's equipped in its slot. If it's better than what you're wearing, a marker appears next to its name — going by that alone is usually right.

  • There are no class restrictions. Any class can wear any gear, of any element.
  • There is a required level, though. Gear above your level can't be equipped, so if something good drops, keep it in your bag and put it on later.
  • Your class matters when crafting — many blueprints are split by class.

Rarity

Gear gets better in the order Common · Uncommon · Rare · Legendary. On top of that there's Set gear, which sits roughly between Rare and Legendary in power and grants bonus effects when you match several pieces of the same set.

The higher the rarity, the more affixes it carries. Common gear has no affixes at all — not a single one, so once you're past the early game it's something to disenchant or sell.

Item level

The iLv after a gear name sets that item's base power. It's a different number from your character level — gear dropped by high-level monsters has a high iLv too.

Where to get it

  • Explore — drops as often as you walk, but the good stuff is carried by Elites and regional bosses
  • Crafting — you can aim for the exact slot you want
  • World Boss — the proper source of Set gear
  • Otherworld Chests — the higher the chest's grade, the better what's inside

Gear you don't use

Disenchant it for Essences. Sell it for Gold.

💡 Sell price only looks at rarity. No matter how high the iLv, the price doesn't go up. Essences from disenchanting, on the other hand, scale with iLv, so high-level gear is worth far more disenchanted than sold.
