Boundless growth, relentless hunt

Otherworld Chests

Sealed chests found on your adventures: where to get them, how to open them, and what each grade holds. Don't let unopened chests pile up.

Otherworld Chests are sealed chests that come into your hands during your adventures. The menu opens at Lv5.

We hide none of the numeric odds — they're all written out in Otherworld Chest Odds.

How to get them

In Explore, you get at most one per expedition.

In the Rift Spire, you're guaranteed one for every ten floors you clear. The count starts from the floor where you began your climb, so floors skipped with Climbing Passes don't count. You also get one for reaching the top — but here too, you must have climbed at least five floors yourself from your starting floor.

A successful Outpost raid also gives you one.

If you help defeat a World Boss and made a meaningful contribution, one is mixed into your rewards. The chest is yours the moment you claim the rewards.

Achieving a Union Joint Objective gives you one based on your rank.

Conquering every city includes one in the conquest reward.

Finishing high in the Archive of Engravings gives you one based on your placement.

How to open them

Chests are sealed, so they don't open right away. The seal comes undone along two tracks at the same time.

  • Waiting — it opens on its own after a set time that depends on the grade
  • Fighting — every time you defeat a monster at or above your level, the seal is brought forward by that much.

Whichever gets there first wins. A Worn chest opens after about twelve kills without waiting out the timer.

⚔ Packs weaker than you can't bring the seal forward. However many old regions you run through, the chest won't budge — because the chest is a reward for your adventure right now. But time always flows, so even if you take a break from hunting, the chest will open eventually. When you level up, the bar rises with you.

🔴 There is no way to open a chest instantly with Gold. You used to be able to pay to skip the seal, but that feature has been removed. Chests are things that ripen on their own while you hunt, and paying to rush them would take that fun away.

So the most profitable move is to leave your chests sealing and head out to hunt.

Up to three chests unseal at once. If you have more, they don't disappear — they wait in line, and when the one ahead opens, the next chest automatically starts unsealing.

While you have the Otherworld Covenant, up to five unseal together. When the Covenant ends and it goes back to three, chests that were already unsealing carry on to the end.

Upgrading the Outpost's Arcane Library shortens the unsealing time itself.

Chests you receive for conquering a city are already unsealed, so you can open them right away without waiting.

Grades

There are four grades: Worn · Sturdy · Epic · Legendary. The higher the grade, the longer it takes and the more — and better — things come out.

What's inside

Potions, materials, gear, and sometimes Soul Remnants. Gold comes along too. However, Legendary chests contain no potions — something better takes that spot.

What comes out is matched to your strength at the time you got the chest. Potions come at the tier you could brew then, and Essence at the tier you were using around that time. Essence comes evenly across all eight elements, so if it's not the element you want, you can convert it in Alchemy's Essence Attunement lab.

However, leaving a chest unopened for a long time won't make its contents grow — they're fixed at the time you got it. There are two exceptions. Chests from the World Boss and the Archive of Engravings have only their grade set in advance; their contents are decided by your strength at the moment you claim them.

Higher-grade chests noticeably raise the chance of good-grade gear. You can see what comes out of each grade, and at what %, in Otherworld Chest Odds.

From Sturdy chests up, Auto-Explore steps · Auto-Gather steps · Spire Climbing Passes · Outpost Shields also turn up, very rarely. None of the four go into your bag — they're added straight to your balance (see Currencies & Passes).

The higher the grade, the more you get. It's one of the few ways to collect these without spending real money.

Don't forget

Fully opened chests don't go into your bag by themselves. You need to claim them on the Otherworld Chest screen. When there's something to claim, a number appears on the menu tab.
