Otherworld Covenant
A 30-day progression track: two tracks rising side by side, ways to advance, what changes when you take the Covenant, and what happens when the season ends.
The Otherworld Covenant is a progression track that runs for 30 days. Fight, gather and craft to climb its tiers, and claim the rewards of every tier you reach. The menu opens at Lv5.
Two lanes climb side by side
There's one set of tiers, but two reward lanes.
- Free lane — everyone gets these, even without taking the Covenant.
- Covenant lane — unlocked for those who take the Covenant.
Your tiers keep climbing even if you haven't taken the Covenant. If you take it later, you receive the Covenant lane rewards for every tier you've already reached retroactively, all at once. Starting early never costs you anything.
Ways to climb
Tiers go up with Covenant EXP. There are seven ways to earn it.
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Slaying monsters | Explore · Rift Spire · World Boss |
| Steps | Gathering |
| Crafting | Alchemy · Gear Crafting |
| Enhancing | Enhance |
Each source has a fixed daily allowance. So you can't finish in a single day by grinding one source, and on the flip side, doing a little each day is enough to reach the end in 30 days. It's tuned so that the end is in sight whether you only fight or only do crafting and gathering.
The daily allowance resets at midnight PT (the same time as Daily Quests). Ways to climb today on the screen shows how much of each source you've filled.
If you take the Covenant
You take the Covenant in the Premium tab of the Shop. While it's active, the following changes:
- Covenant lane rewards unlock — including retroactive rewards for tiers you've already reached.
- The number of Otherworld Chests you can unseal at once goes from three to five.
Chests pile up that much less.
The Covenant applies to your whole account, not a single character. Even if you raise several characters, you only need to take it once. Tiers are also counted per account, so whichever character you play, the same track climbs. Rewards go to the character you're currently playing.
If you take it again while it's already active, the time is added on to your remaining period (it doesn't overwrite it).
When the period ends
After thirty days a new Covenant begins and the tiers start climbing from the beginning again.
Rewards you haven't claimed don't disappear. They stay in Unclaimed rewards from past Covenants at the bottom of the screen, and you can claim them any time. Missing a few days of play won't cost you anything.
Even if your chest slots drop back from five to three when the Covenant ends, chests that were already unsealing will finish unsealing.
What's inside
The Free lane holds a few steps and Climbing Passes, Worn and Sturdy Otherworld Chests, plus materials and Essence.
The Covenant lane holds all three currencies (Auto-Explore steps, Auto-Gather steps, Spire Climbing Passes), Outpost Shields, Epic and Legendary Otherworld Chests, and potions and Essence scaled to your level.
There's no Gold in it. Gold in this game is the household money that keeps potions and crafting going; adding it from outside would break both the difficulty and the farming. Drop rates and the pace at which Boss Seals accumulate aren't sped up by the Covenant either.
